The corporatocracy and fascism

Naomi Wolf wrote a book (published in 2007) called "The End of America: A Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot".  In it she outlines 10 steps that an open society takes to a closed society.  They are:

1. Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy.
2. Create a gulag.
3. Develop a thug cast.
4. Set up an internal surveillance system.
5. Harass citizens' groups.
6. Engage in arbitrary detention and release.
7. Target key individuals.
8. Control the press.
9. Dissent equals treason.
10. Suspend the rule of law.

Patriot Act

The bill to extend the Patriot Act has passed the house - with Tea Party support I might add (31/41) - and it has been approved by the Senate Panel.  Republican senators are calling for the extensions to be made permanent.  Yikes!
