As music evolves over time, there are pros and cons to be had and Ozzy Osbourne recently addressed the evolution of metal in a chat with his son Jack for Noisey.com

The legendary rocker praised the fact that metal has changed with each decade he’s been in the business and that it’s not stayed stagnant over the years. But on the flip side, he’s not exactly a fan of what computers have added to the process.

“I think the computer age has taken over and there’s a lot of trickery you can do now. I’ve actually had guys in bands where I go, ‘Do you want to jam?’ and they go, ‘Jam? What’s that?’ You just play anything together, and they can’t do it. They go, ‘No I have to consult my computer first,’ says Osbourne, who adds, “The art of being in a band is dying.

But in the end, Osbourne says that it’s the message and the attitude that is the key. Speaking of his own approach over the years, the metal icon concluded, “If you want me to do something, tell me not to, cause I’ve never played by any rules. My sole concern is to get on that stage and give the audiences a great day out. That’s all I am. I don’t want to get up and ‘Ban the Bomb.’ That’s been done and that’s for other people. But me, when I hit the stage I want to give them my heart on a plate. That’s the God’s honest truth.”

Osbourne also addressed his past drug use, stating that if he could tell his younger self one thing it would be not to do drugs. “I did what I did when I was 21 and I did what I did when I was 30, but now I feel better today than I did in a long time and I’m 66,” says Osbourne, who credits exercise and a clean lifestyle for his current health status. “There’s no mysterious f—ing hex from Satan,” adds the rocker. “To be honest with you, I just really like being sober.”
